Teeth Whitening or Bleaching

whiteningexampleFREE TEETH WHITENING IS PROVIDED TO ALL NEW PATIENTS

Everybody wants a beautiful smile. And what could be more important than sparkling white teeth, for a mesmerizing smile!

Dr Yianni Magnis D.D.S., is committed to help you achieve your sparkling white smile.

What is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dental procedures. Teeth whitening is generally done by exposing your teeth to whitening agents, which helps to remove stains and discoloration from your teeth. Teeth whitening agents usually contain hydrogen peroxide as the active ingredient.

When do we recommend teeth whitening?

The outer layer of your teeth (tooth enamel) gets coated with thin layers of stains, during the process of your daily routine activities such as eating and drinking. So, the surfaces of the teeth get stained and look dull or yellowish. Aging, tea, coffee and tobacco are all culprits that cause staining the teeth surface.

It is also possible to have intrinsic stains on the teeth. Intrinsic stains, unlike surface stains, are inside the tooth. Intrinsic stains can be caused by factors such as exposure to too much fluoride as a child when teeth are developing.

Teeth bleaching / whitening is mostly done to get rid of surface stains.

When you are considering teeth whitening, we recommend that you consider a procedure that is convenient, has long lasting effect, has low sensitivity and is proven to be safe. Your dentist at Marina View Dentistry will help be happy to discuss with you to help you determine the right teeth whitening choice for you. Please call us.

How we do it?

Teeth whitening is a relatively safe, quick, and inexpensive procedure. Just let us know at any appointment if you would like to do bleaching.

You could choose to do in-office whitening or take-home whitening. Also, you can choose to whiten only your upper teeth or lower teeth or both the upper and lower teeth, depending on how much your teeth show when you talk and smile.

Dr Yianni Magnis D.D.S will take before and after photos for you, so that you can see the results.

In-Office Whitening:

In-office whitening may take one to six visits, depending on your individual needs. Each visit may take you to spend from 30 to 90 minutes at our dental office. The office whitening can be done without or with the help of a light (Zoom system). With the Zoom whitening system, your dentist applies a bleach solution to your teeth and shines an ultraviolet light on your teeth to brighten them

Take-Home Whitening:

For take-home whitening, after carefully examining your teeth, we make an impression of your teeth. We then make special trays (stents) for you. The stents are to hold the bleach gel or solution against your teeth. The whitening kit will be ready for you in a couple of days. You will need to use it for one to three hours daily, for few days to few weeks, depending on your individual needs.

During whitening, if your gums were exposed to the whitening agent, they can become irritated. So, if you are doing take-home whitening, we will ask that you follow-up after about a week, to make sure the process is working properly. For in-office whitening we will ask you to follow-up a few days after it is done.

What you can expect from teeth whitening?
In minimum time, teeth whitening can dramatically improve the look of your teeth – and your smile!

What are the risks / concerns?

  • Whitening is not known to cause serious side effects.
  • Some people may experience temporary increased teeth sensitivity or temporary mild gum irritation for a while.
  • The effect of the whitening materials on the development of the fetus is not known. So whitening procedures should not be done in pregnant women.
  • Whitening will not work on exposed tooth roots that do not have an enamel layer or on crowns or veneers. These restorations will need to be replaced with lighter matching color shades.
  • If the bleaching / whitening solution comes in contact with the inner parts of the teeth, it can damage your teeth and your teeth could become sensitive. So, before doing any teeth bleaching / whitening, we carefully examine your teeth for cavities; and treat the cavities before whitening the teeth. This is to prevent the whitening solution from passing through decayed areas into the inner parts of the teeth.
